A testimony is a personal account of how God has worked in a peron’s life. As a Christian, our testimony speaks of what Christ has done in our lives for His glory. Each testimony is a miracle and witness of the power of God bringing life to us who were “dead in trespasses and sins.” When we share our testimonies, we acknowledge God’s presence in our lives and affirm His faithfulness. And, when we share our testimony it’s not merely a recounting of past events; it’s a God-honoring practice that strengthens both the speaker and the listener.
Spiritual Weapon
- Recognize the spiritual warfare around us. Your testimony plays a role in overcoming the enemy.
- The word of our testimony is important in overcoming temptation and trials, just as Revelation 12:11 mentions.
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
Revelation 12:11
Your testimony is a powerful way to share your faith and encourage others. Here are three key aspects of a personal testimony and ideas for sharing:
Before Christ
It’s important to share a description of your life before you encountered Jesus. Share your struggles, doubts, and emptiness. Perhaps you felt lost, burdened, or searching for meaning. Don’t glorify the past but demonstrate the deep need you had. Paul shared his testimony prior to Christ in Acts 22:3-5.
How You Met Christ
This part of your testimony demonstrates how the Lord drew, convicted, and brought you to repentance and faith. Was it through a sermon, a friend, or the Scripture? This is the blessed time when you repented and believed on Christ as your Savior and experienced forgiveness and transformation. Paul shared his encounter with Christ in Acts 22:6-8 and 15,16.
Life After Christ
This is the part of your testimony that shares how your life changed after Jesus redeemed you. Share the joy, peace, and purpose you found. In your testimony you can share specific events, answered prayers, and the ongoing relationship you have with God. Paul shared his testimony after Christ’s work in his life in Acts 22:17-21.
Just like Paul, your testimony is unique and can impact others profoundly. Share it with others and let God’s work shine through your story!
