Esther Rivers’ story starts in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, but eventually this dear sister came to Georgia Baptist College to study in order to fulfill her calling to become a Christian school teacher. Thankfully, the Lord led her to become a member of Peachtree. Over the years she has been a huge blessing to Peachtree Baptist Church and we thank God for her faithful service!
I grew up in a Christian home hearing about Jesus all the time. I remember vaguely telling my parents I had gotten saved when I was about 4 but I didn’t have any inkling what that really meant.
A few years later, when I was about 6, a close friend of our family died from a heart attack. I remember the day right before his memorial service, I was playing in my bedroom. I started thinking about death because it had just happened. I thought about where I would go after death. Would I go to heaven? Or would I go to hell?
In that moment I realized that I was lost, and if I died right then I would spend eternity in Hell. The thought scared me so much I remember sitting at the top of our stairs crying, not knowing what to do.
I went to my mom and told her what I was thinking about and asked her if she would help me get saved. She guided me and God saved me that day. I thank the Lord for coming to me that day and showing me my need for him. He has always been faithful to me and throughout the years has continued to draw me towards Him.
